Angola: Marcha contra as demolições em massa.
Nesta Quinta feira, 25 de Março de 2010, foi convocada para a cidade de Benguela uma marcha contra as demolições e desalojamentos forçados, pela associação Omunga.
Sob a direcção do governador da província de Huíla, Isaac dos Anjos, milhares de pessoas foram desalojadas à força e viram as suas pobres habitações demolidas, muitas sem sequer puderem salvar todos os seus parcos haveres.
O arcebispo de Lubango da Igreja Católica, Dom Gabriel Mbilingui, visitou o local onde as pessoas acabaram por ser "literalmente despejadas" relatando à rádio as "condições indignas" e a "situação calamitosa em relação aos direitos humanos".
O arcebispo relata ainda que o governador reuniu com os parceiros sociais apenas para os informar que as demolições em massa iam começar, na época das chuvas ao contrário do que estava inicialmente definido e violando todo o projecto inicial. Perante o protesto dos parceiros, incluindo padres e pastores de várias religiões, exclamou:
"Não rezem pelo que acontece, rezem por mim!".
O arcebispo responde: "Rezamos pelo bem de todos. Não é para alguém que faça uma acção totalmente maligna contra as populações e nós vamos pedir que Deus o ajude...".
O governador da Huíla também pretendeu impedir que a marcha contra as demolições se realize, mas a associação Omunga manteve a convocatória, conta com apoios amplos da sociedade civil e de muitas personalidades entre as quais, políticos, jornalistas e escritor@s.
Hoje enquanto angolano, mas acima de tudo enquanto SER HUMANO, junto-me a esta luta dos nossos camaradas da associação OMUNGA (se o meu umbundo não falha, quer dizer todos juntos) e apresento o meu incondicional apoio.
Portanto
No dia 25 de Março de 2010, simplesmente grita "Não partam a minha casa, sou ser humano!", "Não me obriguem a viver em tendas, tenho dignidade!"

Is European Identity a myth?
According to Greek mythology, Europe was a pretty young girl who had the capacity to bewitch Zeus, the Almighty God of the Olympus. Still today we can describe this continent as a magical place where intercrossing of different cultures continues to arouse the curiosity of the men and women of the whole world.
With a population of around 760 million inhabitants, and being one of the smallest continents of the planet, Europe is located in the western part of the Euro-Asian continent. Is it effectively a continent? It isn’t. But the historical circumstances, political organization and the cultural union of these people made this territory in a continent, with a huge importance in the international context. Here there are 60 languages, most of the Indo-European family and spoken by different peoples who are distributed since Scandinavia until the Mediterranean. This ethnic and cultural diversity, many times take-in questioning if really exists a connector link that is characteristic to all the Europeans. In fact, there is.
At the age of the Greek-roman civilization, the inhabitants of the European space shared customs and traditions, many times acculturated themselves. The formation of the Roman Empire led to various lands were to become united under the power of the Emperor, and they had to follow the same laws. The influence of this classic civilization left marks that had lasted per the centuries until the present. The alphabet, the laws, the political organization, the architecture, literature among other aspects had been adoptees in diverse regions of the continent, since the British islands until the Balkans.
In the Middle Ages, people took again a common identity through conversion to Christianity. It is true that there were divisions and disagreements with Catholicism and later led the creation of the Lutheran Church, Anglican and Protestant, but the truth is that most of the European population remained Christian.
Looking back we see a Europe tainted by successive wars, but these disputes have made more quickly have developed proposals for alliances and community associations. In the seventeenth century Eméric Crucé formulated the idea of creating a European Council that would end the conflict that took place across the continent. Many other intellectuals such as Rousseaux, Karl Marx, Emmanuel Kant or Leibniz supported the same idea to achieve a desirable policy objective in the long term. Unfortunately this idea was slowly taking place. Two world-wide wars and millions of lost lives had been necessary so that the leaders of the biggest European powers made pacts that safeguarded the peace and stimulated the reconstruction of infrastructures and the economy. The Creation of the ECSC (European Coal and Steel Community) made possible the existence of the EEC (European Economic Community) that throughout the following years it organized the Europe in a political model that lasts to the present: the European Union.
Today the new challenge of the European Union passes for strengthening a common identity to all the Europeans, which sometimes is refuted by some skeptics who guarantee that the European citizenship is a statute that was used “to sell the idea of the Europe”. In fact, the perception of many Europeans who believe that Brussels takes essentially economical and bureaucratic decisions tends to persist. It is urgent that the educative systems have an active role in combating a widespread misinformation and promote strongly the European identity that really exists. This identity that passes for the tolerance, freedom and respect for the human rights and democracy is the mainstay of the European ideal. Active participation in the society is also common to the identity of all the Europeans.
Indeed, it is not necessary that all the citizens feel loyal to and identified with a common cultural identity (which is a utopia), but with constitutional principles that fully guarantee its rights and freedoms.
I believe then that if in the past the European identity was a myth, today is a reality that is part of our quotidian. More and more Europeans have this notion and each time more we should to engage to keep a Europe that defends its own ideals.

And when the dream comes over ...
After 21 days of pure adrenaline and celebration, here ending the African Nations Cup, accomplished for the very first time in Angola. During the month of January, Angola from Cabinda to Cunene stopped to watch the biggest African sport event, that Angola has ever done. Despite the attack on the selection of Togo, before the start of the championship, the balance that I do of this event is very positive.
For four years, Angola did its best to organize an event sample, and in fact it did. Many say that the timing of the completion of ACN in Angola was a bit hasty because there are still many problems to be solved, such as combating poverty, improving water supply, removal of energy failure, or even a resolution to the so famous problem of the enclave of Cabinda. I think the timing was well chosen, not only because this year Africa receives first World Cup, but also because the Angolan government needs to pass an image of progress and economic growth for the world and thus "sucking" international investment, even if it hides social problems facing the country (which reminds me a cover of Time New York where appeared Salazar and Portugal personified in a beautiful apple with all rotten inside).
Finally, in any case, the ACN was a real feast available to everyone, since ticket prices were quite affordable. Angolans lived several days in ecstasy, celebration and pure entertainment, or as they say over there, a real “boda”.
I am proud that this has been one of the best ACN of all time, but I hope that the country wake up from this dream and be prepared to face new problems, starting with the restriction of liberty that may result from the adoption of the new Constitution.

E quandoo sonho acaba...
Após 21 dias de pura adrenalina e festa, eis que termina o Campeonato Africano das Nações, realizado pela primeira vez em Angola. Durante o mês de Janeiro, Angola de Cabinda ao Cunene parou para acompanhar o maior evento desportivo a nível africano, que Angola alguma vez realizou. Apesar do ataque à selecção do Togo, antes do início do campeonato, o balanço que faço deste evento é bastante positivo.
Durante quatro anos, Angola esmerou-se para organizar um evento exemplar, e de facto conseguiu. Muitos dizem que o momento escolhido para a realização do CAN em Angola foi um bocado precipitado pois existem ainda bastantes problemas que devem ser solucionados, tais como o combate à pobreza, a melhoria do abastecimento de água, a extinção das falhas energéticas, ou até mesmo uma resolução ao problema do tão famoso enclave de Cabinda. Eu acho que o momento foi bem escolhido, não só porque este ano África acolhe pela primeira vez o Mundial de futebol, mas também porque o Governo angolano necessita passar uma imagem de progresso e crescimento económico para todo o mundo e dessa forma "sugar" investimento internacional, mesmo que para isso oculte os problemas sociais que o país enfrenta (o que me faz lembrar a capa do New York Time onde aparecia Salazar e Portugal personificado numa linda maçã com o interior todo podre).
Enfim, em todo o caso, o CAN foi uma autêntica festa ao alcance de tod@s, visto que os preços dos bilhetes eram bastante acessíveis. Os angolanos viveram vários dias em êxtase, festa e de pura animação, ou como se diz por lá, um autêntico boda.
Orgulho-me de que este tenha sido um dos melhores CAN de todos os tempos, mas espero que o país acorde deste sonho e esteja preparado para enfrentar os novos problemas, a começar pela restrição da liberdade que poderá advir da aprovação da nova Constituição.

Dá-mos a mão mas não o braço!
No passado dia 17 de Dezembro de 2009, foi aprovado em Conselho de Ministros a proposta de lei de legalização do casamento entre pessoas do mesmo sexo, diploma este que será discutido na AR entre os dias 14 e 15 de Janeiro.
Caso esta proposta de lei seja aprovada e posteriormente promulgada pelo Presidente da República, Portugal, em termos comparativos (mais uma vez vem ao de cima o nosso gosto pela comparação) aproximar-se-á de alguns dos seus vizinhos europeus no que toca a igualdade de direitos, ou melhor, de direito.
A verdade é que sendo esta proposta de lei aprovada, pessoas do mesmo sexo poderão finalmente casar-se, no entanto sem a possibilidade de adopção. Uma autêntica canoa que é remada em direcções opostas e acaba por não sair do mesmo lugar.
Segundo o Ministro da Presidência, Pedro Silva Pereira, a proposta discutida em Conselho de Ministros "não diz respeito à adopção", fazendo questão em lembrar que também o programa eleitoral do PS não fazia referência a adopção por casais homossexuais. Sublinhou ainda que "o Governo está disposto a cumprir o programa, que diz respeito apenas a remover obstáculos" à legalização do casamento homossexual, não especificando se a proposta que será aprovada proibirá expressamente a adopção.
Enquanto por cá ainda estamos neste pára - arranca, países como a Holanda já se esforçam em sensibilizar a população para a tolerância com a diferença
Um cenário por enquanto impensável para o nosso "pequeno jardim plantado à beira mar".
